The inmate who died at the Edmonton Remand Centre on Thursday has been identified as Barry Raymond Stewart, 59.
Police were celled around 5:00 am on Thursday after reports of a death at the facility.
Investigators have confirmed that the death is being investigated as a homicide, and an autopsy has been conducted.
The cause of death is not being released at this time.
Justin Caldwell Somers, 25, has been charged with second degree murder in the case. Somers is also an inmate at the Edmonton Remand Centre.
The accused made his first court appearance on Friday, May 13th.
He remains in custody.
