CALGARY – Wednesday was back to school for many kids at St. Joseph Elementary Junior High.

The year-round school had its first bell ring bright and early.

The Catholic school is one of two that offers year-round schooling in Calgary and 75 per cent of the junior high population takes advantage.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

Many parents are happy to see their children head back to the classroom.

Most surprising, many of the kids weren’t upset about missing a month of summer.

“We get a longer break in the fall so that kind of works better,” said one student Global News spoke with.

Students and parents say having more frequent breaks makes carrying the workload a little easier throughout the year and makes holiday planning more convenient.
