Liberal incumbent Dipika Damerla wins in Mississauga East-Cooksville

Liberal incumbent Dipika Damerla has won the riding of Mississauga East-Cooksville.

Damerla defeated PC challenger Zoran Churchin with 50.3 per cent of the vote to Churchin’s 25.7 per cent, as of 9:52 p.m. on election night, with 30 of 270 polls reporting.

This election was a tight race between the Liberals and PCs, although the Liberals have held this riding since its creation in 2007. Last election, Damerla defeated Churchin by more than 4,000 votes to win her first election.

While in the Legislature, Damerla has served as Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sport, and to the Minister Responsible for the 2015 Pan/Parapan American Games, among other parliamentary assistant roles.

This is the third time Churchin has run in this riding. He is the founder of a real estate management company and helped to fundraise for and build the All Saints Serbian Orthodox Church in Mississauga. He is currently president of the church.
