OWEN SOUND, Ont. – It was an udderly unusual day for students at an Owen Sound school.
Staff and students at Hillcrest Elementary School found about 10 cattle grazing in the schoolyard Wednesday morning and called police.
Officers who responded stayed on the scene and began corralling the cows until the owner arrived and picked up his errant herd after noon.
It turns out about 20 cattle were spooked overnight and escaped the property outside the southwest limits of Owen Sound (near Waverley Heights).
The farmer had called police and they were looking for the animals when they were spotted at the school.
Police say it’s fortunate no one was hurt and there wasn’t a serious collision on the road with the cows, and the search continues for the other missing cattle.
