Mia Deakin, daughter of RHOV star Jody Claman, remains in hospital following shooting

VANCOUVER – Former Real Housewives of Vancouver cast member, Jody Claman, did not want to talk today about her daughter Mia Deakin.

She was at the hospital in Vancouver visiting her daughter but avoided the cameras and questions about her daughter’s condition.

Deakin was shot in the shoulder during a drive-by shooting in East Vancouver Sunday night.

She had to undergo surgery today and remains in stable condition in hospital.

Deakin, 28, and a 27-year-old man were at a gas station on East Hastings Street and Vernon Drive at about 7 p.m. when a gunman with a high-powered rifle started shooting from the back of an SUV.

“My friend went in to help her,” said witness Alvin Hackett. “To stop the bleeding. He went and grabbed some, I guess pillow cases and towels, and everything to put on her to stop the bleeding.”

Global News has learned the 27-year-old man with Deakin is gang associate Jeffrey Chang. He was treated for a minor injury to his hand following the shooting. After being released from hospital he was arrested for an outstanding warrant for a driving prohibition.

The relationship between the two victims is unknown.

However, the police say the hit was targeted.

Deakin’s father spoke to Global News over the phone and said he had recently warned his daughter about the type of people she was hanging out with.

It is unclear if the shooting or suspects were caught on surveillance tape, but Vancouver Police are looking for video.
