Secondary suite decision put on hold until September

CALGARY- A decision regarding the future of secondary suites has been put on hold.

Councillor Druh Farrell is pushing to legalize suites in wards 7, 9 and 11, which are high-density, inner city areas. She’d also like to see suites in homes that are within 600 metres of primary transit.

A vote on the policy change was scheduled for Monday, but is now being postponed until September so councillors can get more feedback from constituents.

“I heard general support, but a number of them have said ‘I need to talk to my community presidents and associations,’” Farrell explains. “Giving them that time to do that in order to have success in September makes sense to me.”

Mayor Naheed Nenshi has already thrown his support behind the motion.
