Jean Swanson with Carnegie Community Action Project says they want the landlord to make renovations and keep rents low.

She says 40 tenants remain at the hotel. All have been given eviction notices.

Resident Francis Filimenti says conditions inside the hotel are filthy.

“Still, before I came here, I lived in Stanley Park for two years, so to me it is still shelter, it is still home. It is a place where I feel reasonably safe,” he says.

A recent homelessness count revealed there are 120 more homeless people on the streets of Metro Vancouver than there were in 2011.
