VANCOUVER – A 22-year-old woman and a 14-year-old girl had to be airlifted to hospital Monday night after an ATV accident in Powell River.

RCMP say at about 9 p.m. the women were riding on an ATV at Timberlane Avenue and Block Bay Road when the driver lost control and crashed.

The driver is a 22-year-old woman who was airlifted to Vancouver General Hospital. The 14-year-old passenger was airlifted to BC Children’s Hospital.

The extent of their injuries is unknown but RCMP say alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash.

There were many witnesses in the area at the time and some say a pickup truck struck the ATV, causing the crash. However, the RCMP would not comment on the involvement of a truck.

They are still investigating the cause of the crash.
