TORONTO – French photojournalist Camille Lepage was killed in the Central African Republic on Tuesday, leaving behind a body of work that’s appeared in major American and French newspapers.

Lepage, 26, spent her career covering the African continent and since 2012 has been covering the ongoing conflict in South Sudan.

Her work has been published by the New York Times, LA Times, Al Jazeera, Le Monde, Vice, and the Guardian.

Her body was discovered by French peacekeepers inside a vehicle driven by Christian militia fighters she had been covering.

Lepage’s death highlights the increasingly volatile situation in the country and the risks posed to journalists. Both the U.N. Security Council and the Committee to Protect Journalists have called for an immediate investigation into Lepage’s death.
