Ex-KBR firefighter accused of raping Texas woman in Iraq says sex was consensual

HOUSTON – An ex-KBR firefighter has told jurors he had consensual sex with a Texas woman who says she was drugged and sexually assaulted in Iraq at the hands of co-workers.

Jamie Leigh Jones says she was raped while working for KBR in Baghdad in 2005. She is suing KBR, its former parent, Halliburton, and Charles Bortz, a former KBR firefighter she says raped her. All deny Jones’ allegations.

The Houston Chronicle reports the 34-year-old Bortz told jurors on Thursday he and Jones had intercourse in her room after they shared a drink at a party with several other KBR workers.

The Associated Press usually doesn’t identify people alleging sexual assault, but Jones’ face and name have been in media reports and on her own website.
