VANCOUVER – Friends and neighbours are coming to the aid of an Interior family who lost everything in a devastating house fire.
The Gagnons live between Savona and Cache Creek, but their house is outside the local fire protection area.
On Wednesday night they were coming home from dinner when they noticed thick smoke and flames billowing from their property.
All of the family’s possessions, along with several pets, were lost in the fire. They have no content insurance and, adding insult to injury, the Gagnons had been planning to move to Kamloops the next day.
An online fundraiser has now been established to help the family, with more than $10,000 being raised so far.
“Because we were in a rent-to-own, we were paying the premiums on the insurance for the last three years and they held the insurance policy so we had never really seen it,” said Renee Gagnon. “But in our contract it just said that we had to pay the house premiums, so we assumed there was content insurance, but there wasn’t any and we only found that out the next day.”
