Jewelry store robber shot by police in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu

SAINT-JEAN-SUR-RICHELIEU – A man has been shot dead by police after attempting to rob a jewelry store on Saint-Luc boulevard.

At 10:48am Wednesday morning, the man apparently entered Joaillerie Langevin and pointed a weapon at the employees.

According to police, he was wearing a dark trench coat, sunglasses and a wig.

He ordered the employees to lie on the ground as he cleaned out one counter before escaping through a back alley.

Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu police received a distress call from the store and arrived on the scene a few minutes later.

“Officers searched the area and located the individual,” said Joyce Kemp of the Surete du Quebec.

They chased him down Papineau to the corner of Montmartre.

“Several shots were fired,” confirmed Kemp.

“The man was armed. Police were forced to use their firearms.”

The Surete du Quebec has been called in to investigate the incident.
