Roughly 200,000 people are expected on the Plains of Abraham in Quebec City Thursday night.

Given past celebrations, police are on alert.

Last year, there were two stabbings and about 100 arrests.

City officials have said they’ve had enough.

All 700 Quebec City police officers will be out for the festivities Thursday evening.

The city has implemented a zero-tolerance policy for drinking in the streets.

St-Jean-Baptiste partiers won’t be allowed to bring their own alcohol on to the Plains.

For weeks, signs from alcohol awareness group Educ’alcool have been on buses and street signs.

Those who drink should do so in moderation, they say.

City officials know not everyone will take the group’s advice, but they’re hoping for cooperation.

“People can come and have fun but not with their beer and not too much party,” said city spokesperson Francois Moisan.

The new alcohol ban is creating quite the buzz in Quebec City.

Some say it may be time to change St-Jean festivities.

It’s been suggested that the evening party could be changed to a more family-oriented daytime event.

City officials say they haven’t reached that point yet.
