EDMONTON – Damage to a west Edmonton industrial site has been estimated at $3 million following a fire early Saturday morning.
Firefighters were called to Lonestar Lumber, located at 128 Ave. And 168 St., around 3:00 a.m.
It’s believed the fire started in the company’s main manufacturing building.
The company builds wooden pallets, several of which caught fire in the blaze. A second alarm was called around 4:11 a.m. In total, about 60 firefighters were called in to assist in the fight.
Large amounts of wood and low water pressure in the area made fighting the fire a bit difficult.
“There’s a huge, huge fire load here and with a place that builds pallets,” said Deputy Chief Barry Lamb with Edmonton Fire Rescue Services, “so there’s wood all over the place.”
Crews were able to bring the fire under control shortly after 11:00 a.m.
Firefighters remained on scene late Saturday afternoon, putting out hot spots. They remained on site well into the night.
There were no injuries reported.
At this time it’s not known what caused the fire.
The company’s main manufacturing building was completely destroyed in the fire.
