Thai court revokes bail for 2 ‘Red Shirt’ leaders ahead of tense general elections

<p>BANGKOK – A Thai court has revoked bail for two leaders of the anti-government “Red Shirt” protesters, a decision likely to inflame supporters ahead of divisive general elections in July.</p> <p>The Criminal Court ruled Thursday that comments made at an April 10 rally by Jatuporn Prompan and Nisit Sinthuprai could incite unrest and violated their terms of bail.</p> <p>They are among several protest leaders facing terrorism charges launched after demonstrations last year devolved into deadly clashes with the military.</p> <p>Jatuporn was expected to be a key opposition campaigner ahead of the July 3 polls.</p> <p>The snap polls open a new front in the political battle between supporters of deposed ex-leader Thaksin Shinawatra, many of them “Red Shirts,” and current leader Abhisit Vejjajiva.</p>
