Côte Saint-Luc mayor Anthony Housefather takes the plunge into federal politics

MONTREAL – The mayor of the city of Côte Saint-Luc is throwing his hat into the ring as a replacement for veteran MP Irwin Cotler.

The former Liberal justice minister, who represents the Montreal riding of Mount Royal, said that he will not run in the next election, which is tentatively scheduled for October 19, 2015.

A McGill University law graduate with an MBA from Concordia University, Housefather was first elected as the mayor of Côte Saint-Luc in 2005 and he was re-elected in 2009 and 2013.

The riding of Mount Royal includes the city of Côte Saint-Luc, the Towns of Mount Royal and Hampstead, the neighbourhood of Snowdon and the western part of the neighbourhood of Côte-des-Neiges.

Cotler has represented the riding since 1999.
