Kootenay Ice forward Cody Eakin named Western Hockey League player of the week

<p>CALGARY – Kootenay Ice forward Cody Eakin was named the Western Hockey League’s player of the week Monday.</p> <p>Eakin scored two game-winning goals and added two assists in a pair of road games to help Kootenay take a 2-0 series lead over Medicine Hat in the Eastern Conference championship.</p> <p>Eakin scored in overtime to help the Ice win 6-5 in Game 1 before opening the scoring in Game 2, a 3-0 victory.</p> <p>The 19-year-old Winnipeg native joined Kootenay at the trade deadline after spending three seasons with Swift Current.</p> <p>Eakin had 36 goals and 47 assists in 56 regular-season games. He was also on the Canadian team that won a silver medal at the world junior championship in January.</p>
