New Brunswick Liberals say federal Tories should pay Point Lepreau cost overruns

<p>FREDERICTON – New Brunswick’s interim Liberal leader says people should be concerned if the federal budget doesn’t have funding to cover the cost overruns on the refurbishment of the Point Lepreau nuclear power plant.</p> <p>Victor Boudreau says if talks have been progressing as well as the provincial government has been saying, then the money should be there.</p> <p>Boudreau’s comment comes after the federal Conservatives won a majority government in Monday’s federal election.</p> <p>The Opposition had pressed the provincial Tories to use the election as a way to pressure Prime Minister Stephen Harper to make a commitment on funding the cost overruns.</p> <p>The project by Atomic Energy of Canada Ltd., is three years behind schedule and $1 billion over budget.</p> <p>Conservative Premier David Alward says he has a good working relationship with Harper and he expects further discussions will be positive.</p>
