<p>HALIFAX – Halifax Stanfield International Airport is thriving.</p> <p>The airport is reporting one of the busiest years in its 50-year history thanks to a 2.7 per cent overall increase in passenger traffic.</p> <p>A news release issued today says over 3.5 million passengers are using the facility annually.</p> <p>Non-stop flights to the U.S. played a large role in the increase, with traffic up 7.3 per cent, or by over 350,000 passengers.</p> <p>Cargo traffic processed through the airport also increased by 5.7 per cent at over 28,000 tonnes.</p> <p>The airport authority says the facility saw a $1.6-million operating surplus for 2010.</p>
