Woman, 91, fatally struck by vehicle in Hamilton bike lane

A 91-year-old woman has died from her injuries after being struck by a vehicle while walking in a bike lane in Hamilton.

Police said they responded to a serious collision involving a pedestrian shortly after 8:30 p.m. Tuesday in the area of Stone Church Road East and Upper Wellington Street.

She was hit from behind by a Hyundai while she was walking westbound within the bike lane while using a mobility walker, police said. The driver of the vehicle was an 81-year-old woman, police said.

The 91-year-old was taken to Hamilton General Hospital in critical condition where she later died from her injuries.

According to police, the driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators.

Hamilton police’s collision reconstruction unit is investigating.

No charges have been laid.
