EDMONTON – The Redford government says it will provide up to $100,000 in matching private funding for aid to Ukraine.
“We can all relate to the basic need to feel safe in our homes, in our cities and in our country – to live in communities that uphold and support the rights to freedom, democracy and the rule of law that those before us fought and sacrificed their lives for. We stand beside the people of Ukraine,” said Alberta Premier Alison Redford.
The Redford government says its working with Alberta’s Ukrainian community and the Advisory Council on Alberta-Ukraine Relations to determine details of the relief effort.
“In times of trouble it’s important to be able to reach out and help those in need. Our goal is to direct these funds where it is needed most to support those who are affected by the continuing violence in Ukraine,” said Heather Klimchuk, Minister of Culture.
According the province, there are more than 250,000 Albertans of Ukrainian descent.
