B.C.’s Jamie Benn scores game-winning goal against USA in semi-final hockey game

The one and only goal, and the winning goal, in the Canada vs. USA hockey game on Friday morning was scored by a Victoria boy.

Jamie Benn, who currently plays for the Dallas Stars, scored the goal in the second period.

His brother, Jordie, and his sister Jenny, spoke to Jill Krop on Unfiltered about their brother’s big moment.

“I just can’t even believe it, I’m so excited for him, and I’m so happy for the whole team, it’s really exciting,” said Jenny.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

Jordie, who also plays for the Dallas Stars, said some of the team watched the game together on Friday morning.

Originally, Jamie was not even invited to the Olympic camp. But when the season began he proved himself and finally got the call to join the team at camp.

“It was a dream come true for him, that’s for sure,” said Jordie.

Jenny said both of her brothers have always dreamed of playing in the NHL, and going to the Olympics was just the icing on the cake.

“We’re just a really sportsy family,” said Jenny.

Their garage is still covered in puck marks from when the brothers used to practice for hours.

Jordie said he is not worried for Sunday’s gold medal game against Sweden.

“Obviously Sweden has a great team, but if you look at our roster, it’s the dream team,” he said.

Jenny said watching Friday’s game was nerve wracking enough, and Sunday’s will be even worse. She will be watching it with her parents in Victoria.

The game gets underway at 4 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 23.
