Two Transit police officers accused of assault, breach of trust to appear in court

Two Transit Police officers are scheduled to appear in court this morning on assault, mischief and breach of trust charges.

Bruce Shipley and Alfred Wong will appear in provincial court at 9:30 a.m. Friday.

In February 2012, Shipley and Wong were allegedly involved in the pepper spraying of a 27-year-old man at the Granville Skytrain station.

The Crown alleges that the officers checked on the man, who was sitting on the steps of the Skytrain station. Crown alleges that when the man started to walk away, the officers physically assaulted and pepper-sprayed him.

Vancouver Police investigated the incident and recommended assault charges.

Last year, police announced more charges against the officers: breach of trust, fabrication of evidence, and public mischief; after their investigation revealed new information.

Both of the Transit officers have been on administrative duties since the February 2012 incident.
