The City of Vancouver has decided not to press charges against a 72-year-old man who stabbed and killed a pit bull last November.
The pit bull’s owner, Samantha Fairbridge, posted a snippet of the letter she received from the City of Vancouver on a Facebook page called ‘In Memory of Pandora.’
“I have decided it is not in the public interest to prosecute either the person with Pandora, or the person with the off leash dog, for breaches of the Animal Control By-law relating to this incident,” the letter from city prosecutor Ellen Gerber states.
“It is expected that both persons now understand the importance of obeying all sections of the Animal Control By-law. In light of the impact of Pandora’s death on all persons involved, I am satisfied that further infractions are unlikely and that any conviction would result in a small or insignificant penalty.”
The day she was killed, Pandora was being walked by a friend of Fairbridge when they came across the elderly man and his pug. Fairbridge said her dog Pandora was on a leash, but the pug was not.
The owner of the pug told Global News the pit bull attacked his pug, Winston, and they could not be separated. He said he did what he had to do to save the life of his dog.
The SPCA has confirmed the pit bull was stabbed three times.
