Opposition calls for release of N.B. daycare inspection reports

FREDERICTON – New Brunswick’s Liberal leader wants the provincial government to release inspection reports for daycares.

Brian Gallant says the public should know if inspections are being done and that any problems are being corrected.

The New Brunswick Telegraph-Journal recently made a request under the access to information law for the inspection reports but the newspaper was denied.

Marie-Claude Blais, the minister of education and early childhood development, says inspection reports can’t be released because they contain personal information.

But Gallant says the government should be able to redact the personal information and release them.

Blais says new regulations that have been introduced will produce inspection reports without personal information and daycare operators will be required to post them.
