A crowd packed a North Carolina high school gymnasium Sunday afternoon, to remember a K9 officer killed during a standoff and hostage situation last month.
Investigators say Gorky, a Russian Shephard, was shot when he and deputy Chris Fleming went inside a mobile home where a suspect, Nicholas Tilley, was holed up.

The Davie County Sheriff’s Department says Gorky was not wearing a bullet proof vest, which could have saved his life.
However there is an effort in the county to help the department raise enough money to buy vests for the remaining three K9’s.
