EDMONTON – A 22-year-old man has been charged with manslaughter in connection with the homicide of a two-and-a-half-year-old girl.
The charge against Travis Noskiye stems back to an incident on Feb. 13, 2013, when RCMP responded to a call of an unresponsive child at a home on the Bigstone Cree Nation.
RCMP say the child was in the care of Noskiye and his common-law wife at the time.
When RCMP and EMS arrived, the girl was dead and had signs of trauma on her body, RCMP said in a media release.
The Edmonton Medical Examiner’s Office determined the girl died due to “multiple injuries.”
Police say Noskiye’s common-law wife had an informal arrangement with the girl’s biological mother to care for the child. RCMP say the toddler had been living with the couple for about four months before her death.
Noskiye, of the Bigstone Cree Nation, is scheduled to appear in court in Desmarais on Thursday, Feb. 13, 2014. Desmarais is located about 330 kilometres north of Edmonton.
