A Kelowna Rocket has signed with the Colorado Avalanche.
Defenseman Tyson Barrie, 19, will join the team on an entry-level contract.
Barrie was named the Western Conference finalist for the WHL Defenseman of the Year Award.
He helped Team Canada win the silver medal at the 2011 IIHF World Junior Championships in January.
He has led all Rockets defensemen in scoring for the past four seasons.
Barrie and the Rockets finished second in the Western Conference.
They will take on Prince George in the first round of the WHL playoffs beginning Friday.
