Second Cup names former Starbucks exec as CEO

MISSISSAUGA, Ont. – The Second Cup Ltd. (TSX:SCU) has named former Starbucks executive Alix Box as president and chief executive, effective Feb. 24.

The coffee shop chain said Monday she will take over from Stacey Mowbray, who is leaving the company to pursue other opportunities.

Box was most recently senior vice-president for retail at Holt Renfrew.

Before joining the luxury retailer she was vice-president of operations for Starbucks company and licensed stores, and responsible for 675 stores across Canada.

“Alix possesses the ideal combination of related retail experience and leadership attributes to lead Second Cup into a new era of success,” Second Cup chairman Michael Bregman said in a statement.

“She has an extraordinary track record and is driven to deliver sustainable, long-term value for Second Cup shareholders and franchise partners.”

Second Cup has more than 350 cafes across Canada.

Shares of Second Cup were down four cents to $5.05 in late morning trading on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
