TORONTO – Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit has cleared a Toronto police officer of wrongdoing in the death of a man who fell from a balcony.
The SIU says officers went to a Kipling Avenue apartment building on November 9, 2010 to arrest a man in connection with a bail violation.
The man was not in the apartment but he was located on a neighbouring apartment balcony.
The officers tried to get into that apartment and during that time, 39-year-old Munir Isho fell five stories to the ground and suffered fatal injuries.
The SIU says Isho lost his footing while trying to get away from police by climbing to another apartment balcony, and the officer in question could not be held responsible.
