Fire at east end metal manufacturer causes $500,000 damage

WINNIPEG – A fire inside one of the buildings at Hi-Qual Engineered Structures caused $500,000 damage Saturday.

Fire crews from Winnipeg and Springfield were called to the metal structure manufacturer at Ravenhurst Street and Dugald Road at around 3:30 Saturday afternoon, after a paint oven caught fire.

Heavy black smoke was pouring out of the building when crews arrived and it took firefighters almost an hour to get the flames and smoke under control.

Ravenhurst Street was closed while crews worked to put out the fire.

Fire officials said there is smoke damage throughout the building.

No one was injured.
