Edmonton – The RCMP has charged three family members in connection to an incident that resulted in a police officer shooting and killing an Alberta man.
On Aug. 3, a Wetaskiwin RCMP officer pulled over a vehicle near Ma-Me-O Beach at around 10 p.m., because he believed the driver was impaired.

While the officer was reportedly attempting to arrest one person for impaired driving, a fight broke out.
“The confrontation occurred with five males who were inside the suspect vehicle that he had stopped on a suspected impaired driving investigation,” said ASIRT Executive Director Cliff Purvis.
During the altercation, the RCMP officer reportedly pulled out his gun and fired several shots.
“Two males from inside the suspect vehicle were shot. One male was pronounced deceased on scene and the other was taken to hospital in Edmonton,” explained Purvis.
Lawerence Cutarm is facing several charges, including assaulting a peace officer with a weapon, assaulting a peace officer, driving while disqualified, impaired operation of a motor vehicle, and resisting arrest.
Cutarm is the father of both the men who were shot, including his son Lance, who was killed.
Cutarm gave his account of the incident to Global News the day after the shooting.
“My son was going this way and one of them cops shot him. They even tasered him after they killed him. They tasered him,” claimed Cutarm.
Cutarm said he and his two sons were on their way to a friend’s home for a party.
“We were drinking, sure, but we were maintaining. We were coming here to have a party with these guys. I was driving.”
Twenty-eight-year-old Laron Cutarm has been charged with assaulting a peace officer and intimidation of Justice System Participant.
Forty-two-year-old Lee Cutarm remains at large and is wanted for assaulting a peace officer and intimidation of Justice System Participant.
Lawrence and Laron Cutarm are scheduled to appear in Wetaskiwin Provincial Court next week.
The RCMP says it will not be commenting on the incident or the investigation.
The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team is holding an independent review of the shooting.
