Stolen vehicle from Toronto found in downtown Peterborough: police

A man faces a charge after a vehicle reported stolen in Toronto was located in downtown Peterborough on Monday.

According to the Peterborough Police Service, around 9:10 a.m., officers on general patrol were alerted to the stolen vehicle by their cruiser’s automated licence plate reader (ALPR) system.  The vehicle was idling with a person in the driver’s seat in the area of George and King streets.

Officers parked at the front and back of the vehicle, approached and took the driver into custody without incident.

A 54-year-old man from Toronto was arrested and charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.

He was released and is scheduled to appear in court in Peterborough on Nov. 21.

Warrant arrest

Also on Monday, police say an investigation located a 36-year-old man wanted on a warrant for several charges, including robbery, assault with a weapon and bail violations.

Just before midnight, the suspect was located in the area of Wolfe and Aylmer streets. He was arrested on the strength of the warrants.

He was held in custody and is scheduled to make a court appearance on Tuesday.
