The Canadian Coast Guard has concluded a search of the frigid waters off Vancouver’s Point Grey, after a vessel capsized Monday afternoon leaving one person dead.
The Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC) said it received a distress call from the vessel near Wreck Beach around 1:30 p.m.
The JRCC said late Monday evening that it had confirmed just one person was aboard the vessel when it went over.
That person was retrieved from the waters off Wreck Beach, and the University RCMP detachment said first responders were deployed to provide emergency first aid around 2:45 p.m.
Sadly, the man did not survive, and the BC Coroners Service is investigating his death.
Earlier in the afternoon, the Canadian Coast Guard deployed the hovercraft Siyay, along with several smaller boats, which could be seen crisscrossing the waters off Spanish Banks for hours.
A Cormorant helicopter was also deployed to assist in the search.
The JRCC said a dive team from the CCG Hovercraft Siyay was able to locate the vessel and clear it.
More to come…
