Wab Kinew announced Friday that the new government will take this important step Wednesday, Oct. 18, at The Leaf in Assiniboine Park.

He says the choice to hold it at that location is all about looking forward to the future.

“It’s an exciting cool new attraction that’s helping market Manitoba to the world and that’s exactly what our team wants to do in office is to be a positive force, a good representative force for our province to the rest of Canada and the world,” Kinew told 680 CJOB’s The News Friday.

Lt.-Gov. Anita Neville will conduct the swearing-in ceremony, which will include performances by the Norman Chief Memorial Dancers and Dakota Hotain Singers as part of a tribute to Manitoba’s Indigenous nations.

“I really hope that Manitobans look at the swearing-in of the government as one that’s bringing in different strands of the traditions that make up our province and our democracy,” Kinew added.

Kinew said his cabinet will be reflective of Manitoba culturally and geographically.

“We need to ensure there are representatives from all corners of the province. We need to ensure people from different walks of life and gender balance,” Kinew said.

The premier-designate also says its been a whirlwind since election night, but is thankful for all the congratulations from Manitobans so far.

“I’m very humbled by all the well-wishes and all the people honking their horns, waving and coming up to say hello in the time since.”
