A Mental Health Morning, presented by ArcelorMittal Dofasco, is an annual event hosted by St. Joseph’s Healthcare Foundation to bring awareness to and break the stigma around mental illness and addiction.
A Mental Health Morning was started 7 years ago to raise awareness and funds for the Mental Health and Addiction Program at St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton which delivers compassionate, innovative and recovery-focused care to those who need it most. It also celebrates St. Joseph’s Spirit of Hope Awards, which recognize individuals, youth and groups who have overcome mental health or addiction challenges, or who have made positive contributions in the fields of mental health and addiction.
This year’s A Mental Health Morning keynote speaker is Theo Fleury, who will share his story of a troubled childhood, abuse and coping with emotional pain through addictive and self-destructive behaviours. Theo Fleury is perhaps best known for his time on the ice as a professional hockey player. Now, Theo helps people overcome obstacles by igniting leadership, action and resilience from within. Today, Theo defines himself as a victor over trauma and addiction, and a facilitator to those still trying to find their way.

St. Joe’s is one of Canada’s most innovative academic health sciences centres with three campuses – Charlton, King Street and West 5th – providing a comprehensive spectrum of care to more than 2 million people in the region. The Margaret and Charles Juravinski Centre for Integrated Healthcare on St. Joe’s West 5th Campus, is an academic health sciences centre connecting research, clinical care and education. The state-of-the-art facility, designed with the patient in mind, opened in 2014, offering inpatient and outpatient clinics that integrate community and client services to help break the stigma around mental health and addiction.
