Tuatara! Live at the Beatmerchant

Tuatara! emerged from the steamy exotic jungles of the South Pacific in the year 2016 to bring their own unique genre of music “Mauibilly” to the world. Tuatara! are the inventors of this unique style of playing songs on ukulele backed with a driving rockabilly beat. Featuring Mark Brodie on the bongos and cajon, Ken Gilbert on ukulele. Mark Brodie was a founding member of the legendary Vancouver surf bands the Hang-Ten Hangmen and the Metalunas. Ken Gilbert was previously a member of the bands Pauline’s Suitcase and Radio Rudi. Tuatara! takes their musical cues from a variety of genres including pop, rock, reggae, calypso, and especially punk. Tuatara! play classic songs by the Clash, the Beach Boys, the Ramones, Israel Kamakawiwo’ole and even Don Ho in their energetic live set. In 2018 Tuatara! released their debut 9-song CD entitled “Get Your Moai Workin’!”. Tuatara! brings their tropical isle tiki surfing beach party to the shores of Steveston Village at the Beatmerchant Record Store on Saturday September 29th 2018 from 2:30pm- 4:30pm. Copies of their CD “Get Your Moai Workin’!” will be available for purchase at this event. This concert is part of our ongoing series “Sessions at the Store” which takes place at the Beatmerchant Record Store.
