What better way to spend a November Saturday afternoon than celebrating Canadian performers and composers! Edmontonians Marnie Giesbrecht and Joachim Segger are Duo Majoya, a versatile and innovative team which performs organ and piano duets in North America, Europe, South Africa and Asia. On November 8 at 2pm at St. John’s Shaughnessy Church in Vancouver, they will offer music by three Canadian composers: Denis Bedard (Quebec and Vancouver), Jacobus Kloppers (Edmonton) and Ruth Watson Henderson (Toronto). On the programme, Jacobus Kloppers’ poignant and moving “The Last Rose of Summer”, Ruth Watson Henderson’s dramatic and magical “Suite for Organ and Piano”, and three works by Denis Bedard, the former music director at Holy Rosary Cathedral here in Vancouver: Grande Suite, filled with memorable and evocative tunes and sparkling wit, the colourful, vivacious and lyrical Capriccio and the Duet Suite, which is arguably the most loved and often performed organ and piano duet suite in Europe and North America. All this on St. John’s Shaughnessy’s grand piano and magnificent four manual pipe organ, one of the largest in the Lower Mainland.
