The Sound of Dragon Festival offers a free lecture with Yang Xue: The Arts of Erhu Music on Saturday, May 25 at 12:00 pm at The Annex, 823 Seymour Street, Vancouver. Yang Xue, internationally renowned erhu soloist, is the doctoral supervisor and the head of the Strings Teaching & Research Office in the Traditional Chinese Music Department at the Central Conservatory of Music in China. She has won numerous prestigious awards and premiered groundbreaking solo, chamber, and concerto works in China and in Europe, America, Asia, and Africa, collaborating with orchestras such as the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra of London and the Royal Scottish National Orchestra. Yang has commissioned and premiered numerous works for her “Bows and Strings’ Dance” Huqin Ensemble. She has published a series of textbooks and CDs with the ensemble, establishing the reputation as one of the pioneers in the field of erhu ensemble performance.
