Niger’s presidential guards held President Mohamed Bazoum inside his palace in the capital Niamey, in what the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and the African Union (AU) are calling a coup. As Crystal Goomansingh reports, the takeover has raised more worries for a region that’s fallen into deeper instability over the last few years.
