Emergency Preparedness Minister Bill Blair said Tuesday that the federal government would provide $82 million in new funding for humanitarian organizations that respond to large-scale emergencies caused by natural disasters, like the fires currently burning across large swaths of the country. Blair said the funding would be used to help the organizations recruit and maintain workers, train personnel, purchase equipment and supplies and address the needs of specific communities.
