A Competition Bureau assessment fuelled by ever-increasing prices at Canadian grocery stores links this inflation to a lack of competition in the industry. Meanwhile, the federal government is planning to spend more than $1.5 billion over the next five years to help protect the nation against extreme weather events, including major storms and wildfires. To help fireproof homes in the future, a pilot project in Banff, Alta., is offering sprinklers to residents at risk, too. Editor’s Note: Global News originally reported that a prescribed Parks Canada burn near the town of Banff in early May resulted in the evacuation of hundreds of homeowners. In fact, a precautionary evacuation impacted Rocky Mountain Resort and Banff Lighthorse Association but no homeowners were impacted. We regret the error.
