Head of refugee advocacy group blasts SC decision on Safe Third Country Agreement: ‘The U.S. is not a safe country for refugees’

Speaking to reporters in Ottawa on Friday, Gauri Sreenivasan with the Canadian Council for Refugees said her organization disagrees with the Supreme Court of Canada decision on the Safe Third Country Agreement, saying the United States is not “a safe country for refugees.” The Supreme Court of Canada on Friday said the Safe Third Country Agreement between Canada and the United States is constitutional.The Safe Third Country Agreement, which came into effect in 2004, recognizes Canada and the U.S. as safe places for migrants to seek protection.
