Pope Francis was admitted to Rome’s Gemelli Hospital on Wednesday to undergo abdominal surgery to treat a “painful” and recurrent” intestinal blockage. The operation comes two years after the 86-year-old had 33 centimetres of his colon removed due to a narrowing of his large intestine.
