U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas said on Wednesday that departments and agencies are “surging” asylum officers to border patrol facilities as well as immigration and customs enforcement detention facilities in order to conduct an “unprecedented” number of anticipated credible fear screenings ahead of the lifting of Title 42 on Thursday.
