Gwen Grant, the president of the Urban League of Greater Kansas City, said Tuesday that filing charges and subsequent arrest of Andrew Lester, the 84-year-old who shot 16-year-old Ralph Yarl, was just the “first steps to justice.” She went on to say that more must be done to address the discrimination facing racism on the basis of colour, and called on the federal government and FBI to conduct a hate crimes investigation into the case.
