Severe flooding swamped parts of southwest Florida on Wednesday evening, washing out streets in Fort Lauderdale and shutting down the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International airport. Approximately 30 centimetres of rain fell in a matter of hours, according to the National Weather Service.
