Responding to a question in Ottawa on Tuesday, Defence Minister Anita Anand said that Canada was not a member of AUKUS because the pact is focused on the acquisition of nuclear submarines, which is not a priority for the Canadian Armed Forces. She also added that Ottawa is in regular contact with the Five Eyes alliance, made up of Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the U.K., and the U.S.
