Speaking in Guelph, Ont., on Friday, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau defended his decision to appoint former governor general David Johnston as the “special rapporteur” to investigate allegations of foreign interference in Canadian elections. “I am really hoping that the nomination of Mr. Johnston is going to be able to bring down the temperature on this issue,” Trudeau said.
