Not just an art: the tradition of Métis finger weaving

What if the traditions and arts you grew up with weren’t just from your family… but from your entire culture from generations and generations ago? Who would make sure they lived on, even against all odds? The Elders & Traditional Peoples Gathering at Trent University offers opportunities for learning, ceremony and connection for students, community members and Elders. One person making sure these traditions are remembered is Morgan Turcotte. She’s an Ishkodehwin Peer Mentor for the First Peoples House of Learning at Trent University, the Métis Nation of Ontario’s Infinite Reach Facilitator, and Youth Representative on the Peterborough and District Wapiti Métis Council. She showed Teresa Kaszuba a demo of finger weaving, and explained why passing that knowledge on is so important.
